Welcome to Peacher, a political engagement platform operated by Galco LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use our platform at peacher.app.

By using Peacher, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our platform.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

Information We Collect

We collect several types of information to provide and improve our service:

Personal Information

This is information you voluntarily provide to Peacher. If you are a current or past representative, this information may be provided by public data.

  • Display name, full name, and user handle (unique identifier)
  • Email address
  • Biography and profile photo URL
  • Political party affiliation
  • Authorization level (member, moderator, or admin)

Authentication Data

  • OAuth tokens and subject IDs (Google, Discord)
  • WebAuthn/Passkey credentials (stored in JSON format)
  • API keys (base64-encoded, prefixed with peacher_key_)
  • Session cookies (HTTP-only with SameSite policy)

Location Data

This is information you voluntarily provide to Peacher

  • Latitude and longitude coordinates
  • Human-readable address names
  • Geospatial district associations

Activity and Engagement Data

  • Post views, likes, and engagement metrics
  • Message interactions and follow relationships
  • Legislative voting positions you express
  • Content you create (posts, comments, messages)

Moderation Data

  • Ban records with reasons
  • Administrative context notes

How We Collect Information

  • Directly from you: When you create an account, update your profile, or interact with the platform
  • Through OAuth providers: When you authenticate using Google or Discord, we receive your email, name, and profile picture
  • Automatically: Session cookies and usage data as you navigate the platform
  • From your device: Location data when you provide an address or enable location services
  • Representative Data: When public data is available to track information for the purposes of this website

How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Peacher platform
  • To authenticate your identity and manage your account
  • To connect you with your legislative representatives and display relevant district information
  • To enable social features (following, posts, comments, messages)
  • To track legislative activity and voting positions
  • To enforce our Terms of Service and community guidelines
  • To respond to your requests, questions, and feedback
  • To analyze platform usage and improve user experience
  • To comply with legal obligations

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not, and will NEVER sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration without your consent. Your data is used solely to provide and improve the Peacher platform.

We share limited data with the following third parties:

Authentication Services

  • Google OAuth: We receive your email, name, and profile picture when you authenticate
  • Discord OAuth: We receive your username, email, and avatar when you authenticate

This information is stored locally and not shared with other third parties.

Operational Services

  • Nominatim (Self-hosted): Address geocoding service; no external data sharing
  • Carto BASEMAPS: Map tile rendering service; viewport coordinates are shared to load map tiles
  • Plausible Analytics: Privacy-focused analytics; no personal data or tracking

Inactive Services

The following services are configured but not currently active:

  • Stripe: Payment processing
  • SMTP: Email notifications

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use HTTP-only session cookies for authentication and security purposes. These cookies are essential for the platform to function and cannot be disabled. We also use localStorage to store your theme preference locally on your device.

Our analytics provider, Plausible, does not use cookies or track personal information. All analytics are aggregated and anonymized.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information:

  • HTTP-only session cookies with SameSite policy to prevent cross-site attacks
  • Encrypted storage of authentication credentials
  • Secure OAuth 2.0 authentication flows
  • WebAuthn/Passkey support for passwordless authentication
  • Regular security audits and updates

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. When you request account deletion, we will permanently delete your personal data within 30 days, including from backups, unless retention is required by law.

Deletion is cascaded to associated data including posts, comments, messages, follows, and engagement metrics.

Important Exception: Public Official Records

If you are a legislative representative tracked on Peacher, your public records (voting history, attendance records, bill sponsorships, legislative activity, and official actions) are matters of public record and exempt from deletion. This exemption is based on the public's right to access government records and official actions.

However, you retain the right to delete your personal account information (email address, biographical information, profile photo, location, and user-generated content like posts or comments) while your official legislative records remain accessible on the platform.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information (subject to public record exemptions)
  • Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Opt-out: Opt out of certain data processing activities (where applicable)
  • Non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at privacy@peacher.app. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

Note that we plan to enable account deletion within the platform as soon as possible. However, for the time being, please just contact us.

Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten")

Under GDPR Article 17 and CCPA Section 1798.105, you have the right to request deletion of your personal data. We will honor erasure requests within 30 days and permanently delete your information from our systems, including backups, unless retention is required by law.

Exception for Public Officials: If you are a legislative representative tracked on Peacher, your public records (voting history, attendance records, legislative activity, and official actions) are matters of public record and exempt from deletion. However, you retain the right to delete your personal account information (email, biography, profile photo, etc.) while your public legislative records remain accessible.

Children's Privacy

Peacher is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@peacher.app, and we will delete the information immediately.

If we discover that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.

International Users

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Right to access your personal data
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate data

We do not sell your personal information and have not sold personal information in the past 12 months.
